Update (again).

Standard

Unfortunately these updates are going to be as sporadic. I would apologise, but then I never said I would update on a regular basis; this blog was mainly for the purpose of gathering stories but now I think I may use it for other subjects too.

This was going to be an update in November, obviously that didn’t happen I’ve been busy with uni essays and work (early starts every day, yey!) Now that the essays are finished I have time to work on writing something I want to write. Still working on ideas, and to be honest the shop script idea is firmly on the back burner for now, I might even use the stories/characters I have collected from that (thank you once again, and I really mean that) for another idea I have that I’m outlining, there’s one character that was suggested that has to be used, it has too much potential to be left unwritten.

Anyway, that’s it, short and not so sweet. Just wanted to keep this blog ticking really.

Stories (quick update)

Standard

Thank you to everyone who has kindly sent in stories, as I’ve said before it is very much appreciated. Although I am still asking for stories I am starting to go through the ones I have and organise where the ones I have will be used; hopefully that will be all of them. Admittedly this may take time as I am about to start uni but there are no deadlines so no worries there.

As stated before PLEASE keep sending in stories, it doesnt matter what sort of retail environment you worked in or where in the world this was (in fact I am looking for stories from outside the UK now, the more the merrier). It also doesnt matter what kind of story it is, funny, sad, tragic, bizare, as long as its a story you want/feel it needs to be told. And also if you’re feeling generous, please spread word of this blog to everyone who may be interested. I will write another update when I have actually started writing properly, hopefully that will be soon.

Email

Retail stories request (again)

Standard

This is just an update on my previous requests for retail stories. I would still like to read of different people experiences in working in retail (good or bad). If anything can be incorporated into the script I am currently working on then the stories will go in (with the blessing of the person who sent me the story, and also names and stores will be omitted/ change if they wish).

One aspect that still fascinates me is the working relationship of the staff, since I had a good relationship with colleagues in one store, but a bad one with everyone when I transferred to another, this was all down to the manager and I was very nearly made ill (both physically and mentally) by the bullying and stress this caused me.

I endured this for nearly two years, and even now I still get that horrible ball of tension in my stomach when I think back to it all. The strangest bit is, I still don’t regret transferring stores, as my reasons were valid and financially based. I should have listened to my gut though and thought about it more before actually going through with it.

Oh well, the past is the past and I believe (and hope) I am wiser for it.

Thanks

Standard

First of all I would like to say thank you to everyone who responded to my request and retweeted my blog details, it is much appreciated.  As this is being written there haven’t been any responses, but I will post my email address if anyone wants to share a story and either, don’t want to sign up or post the story in a comment. The email address is: facarty@hotmail.co.uk

That’s all I wanted to say really, I will write more next time. Bye.

Funny retail stories

Standard

I’m trying to collect funny stories from any service industry, I know the title says retail but thats because I spent nearly 3 years working in retail and a lot of my friends work in retail or in the restaurant business, I have stories from my own experiences (including the woman who sniffed mirrors) but I would like a few more for a script I’m trying to write.

My friends have given me some stories (not just ones about customers, some of the funniest ones I’ve been told were between staff when no customers were present) it also doesn’t matter where these happen as I’m comtemplating setting this script abroad as well as in the UK (just say what country).

I have also spent some time working in care, and hopefully I will be returning to that sector soon if all goes to plan, so care work is included in this (Like I said, any service industry).  SO if anyone feels generous enough to tell any storys (funny, sad, annoying, stupifying, everything goes) please do I would very much appretiate it. Thank you.
